It is semi-finals day of the Western and Southern open. This 1000 series event is the last event of this level before the U.S. Open begins. This is one of the reasons why this event is so important. It is a major tournament for the preparation of final Grand Slam of the year. Every player wants to perform well and build up the momentum. Many players tried but of course only four have prevailed to reach the semifinals stage of the tournament.
Semi final 1 : Novak Djokovic Vs Alexandr Dolgopolov
World number 1 takes on the conqueror of Tomas Berdych in this semi-final. This is the fourth meeting between the two and Novak has won them all. However, Dolgopolov is not an easy opponent to play against. He can vary the pace on the ball very effectively. It becomes very difficult to hit an offensive shot in reply to his low slices and it will be interesting to see how world number 1 handles this shot. However, with incredible mental strength and supreme shot making on his side, Novak should feel confident about his chances of winning the match. ( match starts at 10:30 p.m. IST)
Semi final 2 : Roger Federer Vs Andy Murray
The more interesting and intriguing match of the day is between world number 3 and world number 2. This promises to be an epic battle. Andy snatched the world number 2 spot from Federer just one week back, therefore adding the revenge flavour to the match.
Andy had a tough match against Dimitrov in third round and dropped one set against Gasquet in quarter finals, but a match-up against Roger is a different thing. It all comes down to how you perform on the day.
Roger, being the defending champion at Cincinnati, would look to get past Andy Murray and move one step closer to defending his title.
With a place in finals at stake, these two great competitors will give it their all. Expect some magic skills to be at display in this match. ( do notice Federer’s pink attire 😉 )
